Ronald Richard Williams 71, of Germantown, TN died Tuesday, May 1,
2012, at Methodist University Hospital. Ron was a Godly Christian and longtime member of Germantown
Baptist Church and the Miller Sunday School Class. Originally from Bruceton, TN Ron graduated from
University of Tennessee College of Engineering and Vanderbilt University where he received a
Masters of Engineering. Ron was P.E. with The Reaves Engineering Firm until his retirement in 2009.
He was well-known as an avid train enthusiast and toy train collector. He enjoyed sharing his train
hobby with others. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mary; twin brother, Donald
Williams (Sandra) of Jackson, TN; sister, Barbara Lee (Jerry) of Hardy, AR; daughter, Christine
Ramsey (Brett) of Carmel, IN; son, Scott Williams (Sabrina) of Cordova, TN. He also leaves 3 loving
grandchildren: Maryrose, Caroline, and Grant and a host of family and friends. Visitation will be
held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 3rd at the Memphis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be
at 2 p.m. Friday, May 4th, at the Memphis Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family has requested

Mr. Gerald “Jerry” Howell, 47 of Bruceton, Tennessee passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012 at the
Regional Hospital in Jackson.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of
Chase Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Prospect Cemetery. Bro. Steve Whitworth will
officiate the service
The family will receive friends in the Oakwood Room of Chase Funeral Home on Tuesday from
4:00 PM until 9:00 PM and on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
Pallbearers who will serve are Chance Ragsdale, Bishop Haynes, Taylor Rich, Randy Cooper,
Kyle Bradley, Colton Wimberley, Jeffrey Moore and Rob Woods.
Mr. Howell was born August 23, 1964 in Houston County, Tennessee. He was a quality control
engineer for Reed Manufacturing, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bruceton
where he was an active member of the Church’s Relay for Life team and had served in the United
States Navy. He was preceded in death by his daughter; Hilary Nicole Howell and his father;
Joseph Tennell.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years; Kathy (Cooper) Howell, one daughter; Hailey Howell,
one son; Hayden Howell all of Bruceton, his mother; Bonnie Enzor of Atwood, one sister; Cindy
Butler (Dennis) of Goodlettsville and one brother; Joey Howell (Tammy) of Erin. He also leaves
one grandson; Preston Nicolas Howell of Bruceton, four nieces, two nephews and one great
nephew.

Mrs. Mary Alice Hoskins, 66, of Bruceton, Tennessee passed away Friday, February 24, 2012 at the
Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, February 27, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of
Chase Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Bro. Leonard Greer will
officiate the service.
The family will receive friends in the Cherry Wood Room of Chase Funeral Home on Sunday, at 5:00
PM and on Monday from 8:00AM until time of service.
Pallbearers who will serve are Morris McDaniel, Scotty Willis, Andrew Willis, Jeremy Willis,
Tommy Davis, and Chris Sauls.
Mrs. Hoskins was born November 28, 1945 in Carroll County, Tennessee to the late Pink Willis and
Hazel (Martin) Willis. She was a clerk at the Swifty T Convenience Store in Huntingdon. She was
preceded in death by her sister, Linda Willis and an infant child.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Jerry Hoskins, two daughters, Lori Hoskins and Kim
Hoskins both of Bruceton, one son, Tim Hoskins of Jackson, Tennessee, five sisters, Carolyn Rogers
of Milan, Ann Sauls, Connie Ketchum, and Janice Manford, all of Bruceton, and Janet Patterson
(husband Danny) of Huntingdon, two brothers, Randall Willis and Grant Willis (wife Patsy), both of
Bruceton.
She also leaves two grandchildren, Bailey and Chloe Hoskins, and several nieces and
nephews.
Maurine Hammett, Class of
1952
Maurine Hammett Wilkins, age 77, departed this
life on February 29, 2012 at the Humboldt Nursing Home after an extended illness.
Maurie was born at Hollow Rock, TN on May 21, 1934, the daughter of the late Roy Ila Hammett. She
attended Hollow Rock-Bruceton Schools and graduated from Central High School. She was a devoted
member of the Methodist Church, and was presently a member of Forest Heights United Methodist
Church in Jackson. Maurine was employed by South Central Bell Telephone Company for thirty-six
years, and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was also an expert seamstress for
many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Eloise (Gene) Leafty of Payson, AZ in
April 2011, and Jonnie (Kenneth) Meadows of Madison, VA in October 2011.
She is survived by a daughter, Melinda Dunham of Collierville, TN; a sister, Juanita Hammett of
Jackson, TN; a brother, William Roy Hammett of Dover, DE; two sisters-in-law, Gaynell Yarbro of
Jackson, TN and LaQuida McKnight of Humboldt, TN and three grandchildren, Paige, Alex and Beth
Dunham of Collierville, TN.
The family will be receiving friends on Sunday, March 4, 2012 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., with the
service to follow at 2 p.m., at Arrington Funeral Directors. Private burial will be at Pisgah
Cemetery in Hollow Rock, TN.
The Telephone Pioneers are asked to sit in a group for the service.

BRUCETON: Lyndel Eugene Smothers, 74, died Monday, February 20, 2012 at Life Care in Bruceton. Mass
was celebrated Friday, February 24, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Camden with Father
Joey Kaump officiating. Burial followed in Carroll Memorial Gardens near McKenzie.
Mr. Smothers was born August 6, 1937 in Buena Vista to the late Delmar Ras Smothers and Alma Odelle
Clark Smothers. He was a retired insurance agent, member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, former
member of Bruceton Masonic Lodge #731 and Bruceton Order of Eastern Star Adah Chapter #314.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Clara King; and one brother, Sherrell
Smothers.
Survivors include: his wife, Patricia Anne Tezak of Bruceton; two daughters, Susan Martin of
Glendale, Arizona and Clara Flaming of Denver, Colorado; one son, Kirk Smothers of Broklyn, New
York; and five grandchildren.

Mrs. Hopper was born April 9, 1945 in Carroll County, Tennessee to the late Russell Lee Kyle and

she was preceded in death by, her husband; Murphy Gene Hopper, an infant son; Roy Lee Hopper
and one brother; Jackie Lee Kyle.
She is survived by one sister; Martha Kyle Hollingsworth (husband Jerry) of Bruceton, a nephew and
son at heart; Roy Gene Hopper. She also leaves a host of friends and a special family of nieces,

BUENA VISTA: John Rylan Robinson, 24, died Tuesday, January 31, 2012 from
injuries he received in an automobile accident. Funeral services were Friday, February 3, at 2 p.m. at
Chase Funeral Home with Bro. Ted Gentle officiating. Burial followed in Carroll Memorial
Gardens.
Mr. Robinson was born April 19, 1987 in Jackson. He was an honor graduate of Murray State University
with a Criminal Justice Degree, a graduate of Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central High School, served as the
equipment manager for the Murray State and Hollow Rock-Bruceton football team, and a member of
Shepard’s Chapel in Arkansas and Hollow Rock Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Weldon Lee Robinson and Cora Mabel (Higdon)
Robinson; maternal grandparents, Carl Neal Handley and Dorothy Lee (Matthews) Handley. Survivors include: his parents, Joseph and Cathey (Handley) Robinson of
Buena Vista; one brother, Chas Robinson of Buena Vista; and one
nephew.

Mr. Henning was born May 1, 1947 in Detroit, MI to the late Forrest Edward Henning and Marie Thomas
Henning Wilson. He was a retired C.P.O. in the U.S. Navy, a member of the Hollow Rock United
Methodist Church and a Vietnam veteran.
He is survived by: two daughters, Kelli (Reggie) Pierce and Amy Morris, both of Jackson; a brother,
Dolan Lynn Wilson, of Atlanta, GA; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

December 01, 2011 at Huntingdon Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Hendrix was born October 22, 1947 in Carroll County, Tennessee to the late
Charlie Ray Hendrix and Rhoda Mae (Birdwell) Hendrix. He was a retired United States Army
Veteran and who served in Vietnam. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert Leon
“Bob” Hendrix.
He is survived by one sister, Judy Hendrix Hooper (husband Ray) of Gray and two brothers, Charlie
Ray Hendrix of Big Sandy and Joe Douglas Hendrix of Buena Vista.

MCKENZIE: Betty S. Thompson, 77, died Thursday, November 17, 2011 at McKenzie Regional
Hospital. Funeral services were Sunday, November 20, at 2 p.m. at First United
Methodist Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, McKenzie.
Mrs. Thompson was born March 18, 1934 to the late Lennie A. and Celie Adeline B.
Wilson. She was a retired HIS employee, a member of First Methodist Church, McKenzie
and a member of the Square Dance Club. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death
by her sister, Nell McAlexander; two brothers, George Wilson and Bradley Wilson; and
one grandson, Jason Robinson.
Survivors include: her husband, Charles Thompson of McKenzie; one daughter, Marcia
Wilson of Bruceton; two sons, Barry Thompson of McKenzie and David Thompson of Hollow
Rock; one brother, W.D. Wilson of McKenzie; and five grandchildren, Heather (Bobby)
White, Brianna Thompson, April Hampton, Jennifer French and Ashley (Hunter) Pickler;
and eight great-grandchildren.
The family has asked that any memorial be made to the American Cancer Society or the
First United Methodist Church of McKenzie.

Medina, TN - Funeral services for James Robert Sharp, Sr., age 74, will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday,
November 1, 2011 at Friendship Baptist Church in Madison County with Bro. Bob Watson officiating.

Mr. Sharp died October 29, 2011 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
He was born in Great Falls, MT, son of the late John Edward and Ludie Mae Webb Sharp, Sr. Mr. Sharp
grew up and was educated in Bruceton, TN. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was for more than 30 years a truck driver retiring from
Milan Express. Mr. Sharp was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Rosalie Wilson Sharp in 2008.
He leaves five daughters, Tina Fortner of Spain, Gina (Christopher) Gearhart of Pensacola, FL, Dina
(Luc) Sharp of Atlanta, GA, Nina Wills of Birmingham, AL and Rosey Blancett of Medina, TN; son,
Bobby (Denise) Sharp of Bartlett, TN; eighteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; two
sisters, Liz Kirkhoffer of Atoka, TN and Brenda Joyner of Henning, TN; favorite aunt, Jean Reeves
of Fruitland, TN

Dwayne Mebane 1933-2011 Dwayne Mebane, 78, passed away on Monday, October 10, at his home
near Buena Vista. Services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 13, at Bruceton First Baptist
Church with Brother Brett Mebane officiating. Burial followed at Prospect Cemetery. Pallbearers who
served were John Parker, Jeff Mebane, Dale Alberts, Mark Totty, Bill Simms, and Steve Parker.

Mr. Mebane was born on July 14, 1933, to the late Jerry Baxter Mebane and Willie Chestine Cole
Mebane, on his family farm in Buena Vista. He was a carpenter by trade and built many homes
throughout Carroll County. He served in the Army in Korea before obtaining his college degree from
Bethel College. Mr. Mebane was a member of Bruceton First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Mebane; his former wife, Patsy Fry Mebane; and a
son, Hal Mebane.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, the former Mary Virginia Sullivan; four daughters, Terry
(Bill) Simms of Tampa, Fla., Kippy (Dale) Alberts of St. Petersburg, Fla., Melissa (Mark) Totty of
Camden, and Amy Martinez of Franklin; two special nephews, Brent (Michelle) Mebane and Jeffery
(April) Mebane, both of Bruceton; five grandchildren, Evan and Michael Totty, Hannah and Abbey

Mr. Johnson was born Nov. 14, 1960 in Camden to Leta Hicks Johnson, of Sawyers Mill, and
the late Billie Johnson. He was a riverboat captain for American. Commercial Lines for 25
years.
In addition to his mother he is survived by three sisters, Susann Johnson, of Nashville,
Janice Taylor, of Eva, and Charlotte Johnson, of Sawyers Mill; a brother, Mark Johnson, of Sawyers
Mill; two nephews, John David Taylor and Billy Taylor, both of Camden; a niece, Carlin Johnson, of

Billy Joe Edwards, 72, of Hollow
Rock, passed away on Friday, Aug. 19, at his home.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, at
Bruceton Funeral Home with Bra James S. Daniel officiating. Burial followed at Prospect Cemetery.
Pallbearers who served were Monte Bayless, Steve Parker, Sam Bailey, Charles Cunningham, Joey
Hedge, and Kevin Stepp. Honorary pallbearers were Billy Howe, Larry Spencer, Bobby John White,
Byron Wilson, James Abbott, Kevin Abbott, and Daniel Abbott.
Mr. Edwards was born on Oct. 9, 1938, in Hollow Rock, to the late
James Lester Edwards and Ennie Lee Holladay Edwards. He was a retired pot room employee for
Consolidated Aluminum, a member of Prospect Baptist Church, and an Army Veteran with 82nd Airborne.
He is survived by a very special friend and caregiver, Peggy Hedge, and her children, who were very
special to him, Angelina and Joey Hedge; an aunt, Carmel Hawkins; and several cousins.

James Darrell Edwards, 46, of Humboldt, passed away Sunday, July 24, at Humboldt General
Hospital. Memorial services were held Wednesday, July 27, at 1:30 p.m., at Northside United Meth-
odist Church in Jackson with Bill McClarin officiating. Arrington Funeral Home of Jackson was in
charge of arrangements.
Mr. Edwards was born March 26, 1965 in Hollow Rock to Annie Brown Edwards of Huntingdon, and the
late Ray Edwards. He served as a maintenance worker at the Milan Arsenal for 12 years, and while
working there, he re- ceived a Medal of Honor from a four-star general from the Penta- gon in
Washington, D.C., was a security guard for several busi- nesses in Jackson and a member of
Northside United Methodist Church.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grand- parents, Lusky and Alice
Brown, and Maud and Lorenne Beulah Edwards. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife,
Denise Perkins Edwards, of Humboldt; a sister, Patsy (Pat) Anthony, two brothers, Billy (Suzanne)
Edwards, and David (Marylin) Edwards, all of Huntingdon; and several nieces and nephews. [Carroll
